McNeil Engineering continues to deliver impactful work across Utah, with each department contributing to projects that strengthen communities and elevate the built environment. This year’s highlights showcase the expertise, collaboration, and problem-solving that define our team.
Advancing Surveying Through Modern Technology
Surveying has evolved significantly, and our team continues to embrace tools that improve safety, speed, and accuracy. Recent work along the Jordan River demonstrated how sonar technology paired with high-accuracy GPS can create precise 3D models of riverbeds. This approach reveals sediment buildup, erosion patterns, and channel changes. It also supports better planning for engineers, environmental specialists, and local communities. What once required wading into the water can now be done more quickly and efficiently.
Civil Engineering Projects That Strengthen Community Infrastructure
The Civil Engineering team contributed to several important projects, including the site design for the new Jack in the Box in Kaysville. The design balanced efficiency and aesthetics through thoughtful grading, drainage, utility planning, and traffic flow. Drive-through circulation, parking layout, and stormwater management were engineered for long-term reliability and a positive user experience. Collaboration with architects, contractors, and city officials was central to the project’s success.
Another major civil project was the renovation and repaving of the Farmington Highway Patrol parking lot. The team conducted pavement evaluations, adjusted grading, oversaw construction, and coordinated the installation of a durable new asphalt system. Throughout the project, safety and access were maintained, allowing daily operations to continue without disruption. The completed lot now provides a long-lasting and reliable surface for patrol vehicles and staff.
Structural Engineering That Shapes Utah’s Skyline
The Structural Engineering team played a key role in the completion of the Camber development in Salt Lake City. This seven-story podium wrap building brings together concrete and wood framing to support 394 apartment units and 28 townhomes. The structure also accommodates an eighth-level rooftop deck with a pool, bowling alley, and fitness club. Designing efficient framing systems and resolving complex load paths required close coordination with the architectural team. The result is a modern residential community that blends durability, functionality, and vibrant urban living.
Landscape Architecture Inspired by Placemaking
Landscape Architecture continues to focus on creating environments that reflect community identity and enhance daily life. From mixed-use developments to civic spaces, the team approaches each project with a placemaking mindset. Pathways, planting zones, gathering areas, and public spaces are designed to feel authentic and cohesive. Collaboration with architects, civil engineers, and developers ensures that each landscape supports how people move, interact, and experience the space. These outdoor environments play an important role in Utah’s growing communities, offering places to connect, unwind, and feel at home.
Supporting Productivity and Balance in the Workplace
The newsletter also included a feature on remote work, offering practical guidance for creating productive home workspaces and maintaining a healthy work routine. Topics included establishing boundaries, improving communication, staying connected with colleagues, and using technology to support productivity. This focus reflects McNeil Engineering’s commitment to supporting not only project success but also the well-being of team members and partners.
Looking at What is Ahead
Each project highlighted this year reflects the skill, passion, and dedication of McNeil Engineering’s multidisciplinary teams. Whether improving essential public infrastructure, shaping urban living, or designing community-centered landscapes, our work continues to make a meaningful impact. As Utah grows, we remain committed to delivering practical, thoughtful solutions that strengthen the communities we serve.
