These soldiers set up Camp Floyd, raising the population to over 7,000 for a time. However, when the Civil War began in 1861, the troops were recalled back east, and the town’s population dwindled. Since then, the town has remained a quiet historic stop in the Provo-Orem area, known for housing the Camp Floyd State Park Museum, which includes the historic Fairfield District School, the Stagecoach Inn, and remnants of the original military camp.
